[wix-users] Alternatives to DifX?

Microsoft never provided one. We asked them to consider giving the code to us to maintain a couple times but they never chose to do that. Writing a replacement would be a large undertaking. 

Perhaps if lots of customers asked them to donate the code they would reconsider?

Meanwhile, DifX has been deprecated my Microsoft for quite some time, see e.g. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/install/difx-guidelines

This does not only refer to dpinst.exe, but also to difxapp(a).dll, which the DifX extension supplies and uses.

So what alternatives does WIX support in order to get some necessary drivers onto the target machine?
