Never tried, but I expect you'd need to run the installation as LocalSystem. Installing into profile locations not logged in as that user is a might strange and tricky thing to do.

Subject: [wix-users] Install files for localService

Hello,

Using WIX 3.11 / Windows 10.

We are currently installing files into currently logged on users "user profile" directory (i.e. C:\Users\myuser)

<Property Id="USER_FOLDER">
  <DirectorySearch Id="userProfileSearch" Depth="0" Path="[%USERPROFILE]" /> </Property>

<Directory Id="TARGETDIR" Name="SourceDir">
  <Directory Id="USER_FOLDER">
     <Component Id="xxx"Guid="...">
       <File Source="myfile" KeyPath="yes" />
     </Component>
  </Directory>
</Directory>

Two questions:

  1. How can we modify above setup to install files to "NT AUTHORITY\LocalService" user directory? ( Actual path is C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local).
  2. Does WIX provide functionality to find USER_DIR for a specific CLSID? So input "S-1-5-19" and output "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService" or similar.

Kind regards, Lars A
