[wix-users] Event manifest registration issue happening with EventManifest WIX support

Hello Team

 

We have an installer (msi) product  which is being serviced using agent
updates (msp). MSP has updated binaries/scripts and some customer actions
running as part of the process. As part of our installer, we have an event
manifest which gets registered using "EventManifest" support available with
WIX
(http://wixtoolset.org/documentation/manual/v3/xsd/util/eventmanifest.html)

 

What we are observing is that sometime the event manifest does not gets
(re)registered rightfully and thus impact the event hierarchy listing as
well as the events upload to those channels. 

 

Once the manifest registration is unsuccessful, customer either have to
perform the wevutil um/im actions again or sometimes it is only fixed after
complete product uninstall and reinstall. We have tried to perform repro but
it is not all the time it is happening :(

 

I tried searching if this has been discussed earlier and I can see a thread
which seems to be touching this :

Is it better to use the custom actions to perform the event registration /
un-registration instead of EventManifest WIX support? Any other pointer /
logs be able to help as why this issue happens sometimes?
