[wix-users] Light can not find file

Are you executing candle and light from a command prompt?  Because that's where the logs would be.  Also what version of the toolset are you using?

Yes I can see how creating a shortcut using the method you described would be better.

This error comes up when I try to create the msi using light. I tried light with verbose on, but it does not generate any additional information.

How do I generate a log file?

  Wix doesn't care.  I just tested it and I can create a MSI with a url file without issue.  However, if you are deploying an internet shortcut, it would make more sense to do so with the supported method.  A *.url file is an internet shortcut.

  Beyond that, there isn't much help we can offer as you didn't provide any logs. (Was it candle or light that failed?  What was the error/code/message? Do you have LSW turned on?  Does the case of your authoring match the case of your file on disk?)

Thanks for your response. I am not really trying to create an internet short cut. I am simply trying to get WIX to find the file.

Are you saying that because it might be a shortcut file that WIX is refusing to find it? Why would WIX try to interpret the files contents?

I really need help with this. Can someone please give me some feedback.

Why can WIX not find this specified file: "BgsSupportInformation.url"?  It has no problem finding 'Helper.dll'

I tried making the file name shorter, it does not seem to make a difference.

I am trying to get a simple installer example working...

Here is the XML in question:
<Component Id='HelperLibrary' Guid='649f39da-b11a-45b2-817f-ab8d06e0555e'>
  <!--<File Id='HelperDLL' Name='Helper.dll' DiskId='1' Source='Helper.dll' KeyPath='yes' />-->
  <File Id='BgsSupportInformationURL' Name='BgsSupportInformation.url' DiskId='1' Source='BgsSupportInformation.url' KeyPath='yes'/> </Component>

When I try to reference BgsSupportInformation.url, light can not find the file. When I replace it with Helper.dll, it works.
I have verified that both files are present in the same directory.

Can someone please explain why there should be a difference in finding these files?
