You can safely ignore the LIGHT1076:ICE48 warning, as long as you're always giving the user a chance to validate or change the path. BTW, make sure you're using the built-in property for the "C:\Program Files (x86)" directory.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] - [wix-users] Property / Directory Warning

I have a UI Dialog where I define a property to capture a directory selected by a user from the Browse dialog. While defining this property, if I assign the value attribute to a dummy value (which is required during declaration), I get a warning in the light command, as below.

*warning LGHT1076: ICE48: Directory 'C:\\Program Files(x86)\\App' appears to be hardcoded in the Property table to a local drive.*

So, if I remove the dummy value, I get an error saying the value is required or remove the attribute completely. If I remove the attribute completely, I get another warning in the Candle command,as below.

*warning CNDL1006: Property 'APP_DIR' does not contain a Value attribute and is not marked as Admin, Secure or Hidden. The Property element is being
ignored.*

I am confused and not sure what to do. Can anyone please help?

Regards,
Venkatesh
