[wix-users] Cabs being striped out. Un-Install is fine.

Thanks.

Took some time to wrap my head around it but I get it now.

Funny though. Per the article you pointed out

" Windows Installer 5.0 in Windows 7 will cache the installation packages without stripping their embedded cabinets"

So why?

"But this won’t prevent prompts for source even if all files are compressed into embedded cabinets. Windows Installer 5.0 does not consider the Installer-cached .msi files to be valid source and will still resolve possible source locations or prompt as it has in the past."

WOW!!!!

Thanks again.

A bundle would fix this, as it's package cache is a valid source. And I'd also recommend using external CAB's to reduce the size of the Windows Installer cached MSI.

HI all.

Still working on a problem with the MSI getting cached but the cabs are stripped out. I can un-install but cannot repair without a prompt for the location of the original MSI.

So... As I have been Google'ing it seems the cabs are stripped out as the un-install works.

I am not using a Boot-strapper anymore and just running the MSI itself. I have tested on Win 7 and Server 2008 and have set the Package InstallerVersion="500"

Any ideas? What am I missing?

Thanks.
