[wix-users] Having version number in filenames when apply a patch

Unlike others including Phil Wilson, I don't have any expertise on this subject, but the question has come up in the archives before. IIRC, the suggestion was to install the new file and configure the app to use it. For the patch leave the old file as it is, based on the principal that a patch should never try to remove a 'leaf' in the file tree, but you can add a 'leaf' to a patch. Then when the user at a later point does a MajorUpgrade the old file will be cleaned up.

Phill in this case, (not Phil the expert, thanks for all your help over the years!)

Hi Phil

Thank you for your answer. I'm new in this topic so probably I need to change my perspective.

Is there any other possibility to install just some jar files of the software and not the whole application again? As I understood MajorUpdate means uninstall all files and install all files with a new version.

The background ist that people using laptops with bad network connection but need to update the system. So we like to have our update packages as small as possible.

Best regards,

Christin
