Well that's good news at least.  Reading the documentation it looked like all the IIS commands were for the IIS 6 compatibility mode.

I will read some more/dig some more about the log file options.  I have tried to set the log filename and turn on logging, but no luck so far.  My requirement for this product is to set the log file with the date and time appended to it.

    <Property Id="MsiLogFileLocation" Value="%Temp%\MyProduct.log" />
    <Property Id="MsiLogging" Value="v" />

What I read so far was that the properties above would work if you are using Windows Installer 4.  So far I have not seen it work and I am not sure if it uses version 4 of the Windows installer by default or not.

The information on the net does not always help if you want to do custom or unusual stuff.  Seems that getting to understand the WiX source code might help, but will probably take some time.

I think what might have confused Tyrel is that the documentation mentions IIS 6 everywhere. I started some "what is actually 7" things for some colleagues but never finished it or made it available in a polished form since they didn't know enough about installation and I don't enough about IIS to really write such a thing.

IIS 7 support has been present since at least WiX 3.5.  The current stable release is WiX 3.10.3.  Likewise, use either a standard BA or crafting your own MBA, most of the log file name improvements you are looking for (not using hex-based names in particular) are present.

WiX 4 is a major change and it will take some active development to get it there--which is underway.  At the earliest, I don't see a release before 2017.

Hi,

Does anyone know how close WiX 4 is to being released?  I need IIS 7 support (looks like that is in 4) and better support for tweaking the logging options (log level and filename) from the XML instead of passing parameters to msiexec.  Seems like a lot of the new things are found in 4.
