To actually address the OP instead of Kurt’s problem…

No, it is not necessarily expected that your particular custom action should behave differently when using passive mode.

Does the verbose log show XXXX when run with passive mode? If so, what does it show and what were the actions before and after it?

Could you show the 2-3 lines before, the lines where XXXX is mentioned, and the 2-3 lines after, in line order from the log?

Hi Team,

I have a strange problem with wix based MSI when run with passive mode.


<CustomAction Id="XXXX" Property="TARGETDIR" Value="XXX"/>
<InstallExecuteSequence> <Custom Action="XXXX"
Before="CostFinalize"></Custom> </InstallExecuteSequence> This custom
action is changing the value of TARGETDIR property in normal installation
for WiX installer. But, it is not changing property value in Passive mode
of installation of WiX installer.

Could you please let me know if this is a bug or any suggestions to resolve
the issue.
