[wix-devs] v4 - which .NET Framework?

I’m not sure if it helps in the decision making process, but I work for a manufacturing company; we rarely put a higher version of .NET on our servers than what is installed out of the box. When we do, it’s usually very closely aligned to Windows PowerShell requirements, which I believe have pushed it to .NET 4.5.2. 4.6 also isn’t really distributed across the environment, despite my best efforts at making it part of the core build.

I think 4.5.2.  What I've seen of 4.6 is that most of my development teams (with one exception) want to move directly to 4.6.1.  But I don't want to jump to 4.6.1 for my bootstrappers because I'm afraid I'll fail less gracefully, and I'm not enthused about install a lot of .NET as a pre-requisite for my bootstrappers if I can avoid it and get a graceful fail for my applications.  My FI's (Financial Institutions) don't necessarily have a lot of 4.6.1 on their servers and especially their terminal servers.

My vote would be for installing the newest .Net framework that will install on all the OS's we support, but only do it if the minimum required version is not present. I don't like the idea of installing unsupported or older versions just because it's the minimum requirement.
